Kathie in VA
My laptop runs slower than it should. I've done the basics like rebooting, defragmenting, etc. I tried a registry program from McAfee but it didn't work well for some reason so I removed it. I could still be registry issues, I'm not sure. I was wondering if anyone has actually used 'Finallyfast.com', 'mycleanpc.com', or something like it. It sounds like a scam but it is hard to tell, so I thought I'd ask around. Thanks for any help you can give! Blessings, Kathie

WishboneDawn
I'd try both Spybot and CCleaner. Spybot will root out any malware that might be slowing you system and CCleaner will give your computer a good enema (Are there othergeeks here who know what the first C stands for?). :D For more specific advice you could post the model and version of windows you're running or google, "Tweak windows *whatever version*" If the computer's a couple of years old or older and never had a fresh install I'd be tempted to back everything up, wipe it and do a fresh install. I just did that on mine a couple of weeks ago. Edited August 8, 2010 by WishboneDawn

RoughCollie
I'd download Tune-Up Utilities from http://www.download.com , for the free 30-day trial period. It has solved a lot of my computer problems for about 5 years now. I also run Malware Bytes, Ad-Aware, Avast Antivirus, Spybot S& D, at least once a week. Nestof3
www.malwarebytes.com always works for me. Mine is usually something bad on it. My husband's got so bad that I did a complete restore. It works like it is brand new. His is easy, though -- he doesn't store much info on his.

Nestof3
It just removes malware which often slows your computer down. It's like a spyware program. Just download it and run it. How do you do this? WishboneDawn
:iagree: We just did this with our computer after trying all other options. It works so much faster now! The funny thing is after all that mine was slower. :) I did it more for organizational reasons (clean start on all those files and useless freware programs I never used) and simply because it's part of my routine maintenance. I'd tweaked my system quite a bit so once it went back to the standard settings it slowed down. Did some of Black Viper's tweaks and all was soon good. I almost went to Ubuntu this time too...I keep resolving that with the next install I'm switching to Linux. I always chicken out in the end. :D
