Carrie12345
Because we're required to do standardized testing in certain years, I kind of have to figure out what grade to call my kid. There are multiple factors to consider, but I'd like some input on this one. What grade level do you think this looks like: Saxon Algebra 1 Second Form Latin MCT Magic Lens 1 pkg Lightning Lit 8 History Odyssey level 2 Middle Ages (plus some SOTW work with the littles) The Elements Chemistry (1st semester) Carbon Chemistry (2nd semester) plus The Story of Science (Aristotle) throughout the year Critical Thinking Book 2 Mapping the World with Art
Momling
Unless you would like your child to begin college earlier or later than 18, I would use age rather than ability in deciding which grade to officially call a child.
ereks mom
I'd say maybe 8th or 9th, although it could be 7th for some kids.
Ellie
The only factor *I* consider is the grade the child would be in if he were in school, according to his date of birth and the cut-off in the state where he lives. That is because standardized test scores compare children to normed groups of the same grade levels. So the question would be this: what grade would your dc be in if he were in school? That's the grade level you choose for the standardized test.
Carrie12345
Unless you would like your child to begin college earlier or later than 18, I would use age rather than ability in deciding which grade to officially call a child. Well, by public school cut-offs, he would graduate at 17 unless he was held back ;). He also has Asperger's, so the current plan is for him to do at least the first couple of years of college while living at home anyway. One of the other factors I'm trying to mull over is the fact that I will not be teaching higher level maths (anything past Alg. 2) or sciences, and our CC only admits Juniors and Seniors for dual enrollment. He's very resistant to the idea of holding back in those two areas. I *could* put my foot down, but I'm not sure how much I really want to do that! Matryoshka
I'd say it could be anywhere from 7th-9th, depending on the child.
brownie
For legal purposes it's usually best to submit scores for the grade level your child should be in. However, if you do want any useful information from it, you need to test above grade level. We've done both. Brownie
angela in ohio
It looks like 8th grade to me, but I agree with Ellie and others who have said to go by age.
SailorMom
Looks like 8th to me as well. Possibly 7th for some kids.
SOCKSINFOX
It sounds like 8th or 9th to me. For testing purposes, if he is working ahead of his age grade level, I'd put his grade as the one he'd be in if he were in public school, that way you're less likely to run into any legal issues. If he's 11 than he'd be 6th grade... or maybe 7th if he has a late birthday.
