ScoutTN
How do I cook fresh peas - field peas, not green English peas. Like dried beans? Help, please!
G5052
http://find.myrecipes.com/recipes/recipefinder.dyn?action=displayRecipe&recipe_id=1898546 We had field peas overflowing several weeks ago, not CSA though -- just our garden.
Beach Mom
:iagree: We had these in our CSA box for a couple of weeks. It is always exciting to see what we are going to get, and a little nerve wracking when it is something unfamiliar. My youngest DS loves the adventure of the CSA, he reports back to the farmer each week what we made and what he did and did not enjoy. This week we got some unusual kind of eggplant - bright purple round and fat. I am still trying to figure out what variety and what to do with it. We got some really sweet white peaches and corn that was yummy. Happy Cooking!
GraciebytheBay
Sorry I can't be of help, but I just wanted to say that I love the idea of a CSA. I'd love to hear more about it sometime. Sometimes when I buy produce from the farmers market, I feel so much pressure to use it up quickly and figure out how to use it all! It can be stressful! I know that sounds weird...I wonder if my nerves could handle a CSA! LOL!
G5052
I had to be quite creative to use everything, and because we were one of a handful of people picking up at the farm, he often gave us odds-and-ends that were interesting. If you're not willing to try new things and make the best use of things, I wouldn't do it. Some don't like having the farmer/weather plan their menus. We became be gardeners because of it, and I love figuring out how to use up everything or give it away all summer. Makes going to the grocery store the rest of the year kind of boring... ScoutTN
Thanks for the recipe help, GVA! We do love the adventure of our CSA. We split a share with my parents, so the volume is less of an issue than the variety. When we get our tomatoes and zucchini and theirs, it does become a bit crazy here with zucchini bread and spaghetti sauce making for several days non-stop! I have learned to love kale and my kids have tried a zillion things I never would have bought otherwise! Thankfully I have a husband who never met a vegetable he didn't like!
