Elizabeth in WA
Writing- IEW SICC and elegant Essay Vocabulary- Vocab from classical roots C & D Grammar- Analytical grammar Honors Literature- TOG I believe the above would all be components of "English 9" or "Honors English 9" as high school students do not generally have separate courses for each of those categories. Math- Intro to Algebra IHonors Science- Campbell Biology Honors History - TOG Finance- Workbook (1/2 Credit) This looks like 3.5 more credits for a total 4.5 credits for the year. Depending on what you are shooting for post high school, you might want more credits for the year. In my area, most high school student take 6 credits a year, with a minimum 23 total units required for graduation. However, looking at what you have below, you should have no problem coming up with 6 credits without adding anything. Extra Curricular: Model UN- Co-op (this is a 2 hour a week class for a year at our co-op should he have a HS credit for it or keep it as extra curricular?) I would include this as a a credit or half credit depending on the total time spent on it. Homeschool JV Basketball This looks like Physical Education which may be a half credit or full credit depending on the total time spent. Volunteer at our co-op for sibling drop-in class x a weekVolunteer at local hospital Overall, you plan looks fine to me with just some adjustments in how you think about the transcript. LoriM
I agree with Elisabeth entirely. English I (or English 9, depending on how you designate), Algebra I, Biology (with Lab?), History (which unit? Ancients? Modern?), Personal Finance, CIVICS (which is what I'd call Model UN, if you spend 2 hrs per week all year in class), and PE. Finance, Civics and PE would be half-credits, others full credit. Order a full dissection series from Home Science Tools, or Carolina Biology...and anything else you need for life science labs. 5.5 or 6 credits, if you decide the literature component for English I is too time demanding, then you might give 1.5 credits for English. Leanna Tomlinson
I agree with both Elizabeth and Lori. I also might consider adding a foreign language. Many colleges like to see three years in one language. It's much easier to take more classes in the 9th grade when students can't drive or work yet. Not having to take a foreign language in 12th grade gives a 17yo, who is driving, more time for volunteer work or extra-curriculars without your help or driving time. cseitter
Does Traditional Logic I count as part of English or another credit if he gets through I and II? I have I.
Chocolate Lover
What country or organization is he representing in Model UN? That is so much fun. I would call it International Political Studies. I did Model UN myself, and was part of the team that represented SWAPO (South West African Organization).
Cinder
Does Traditional Logic I count as part of English or another credit if he gets through I and II? I have I. I wouldn't count it as part of English but would give a Humanities credit for it. The Memoria Press website mentions each course is worth .5 credit. Cinder ETA: Ok, I found the credit info on their online course website. It also mentions that the course can be a logic, language arts, or philosophy credit. http://www.memoriapress.com/course/mod/resource/view.php?id=9286 Edited August 8, 2010 by Cinder add website reference
