Can someone explain the allure of Bravewriter?

I just borrowed a copy of it from a friend. It's a great book to *read* on how to write, but I'm not sure how I would use it. I need something with very clear directions, so maybe I just don't see how to use this. Thanks.

I am in the same boat as you. I don't think it is formatted in a way for my brain. I have always thought that that book was almost worthless to me, as I couldn't process it well, and it was a lot of trouble.

However, I saw her speak, explain her philosophy and methods... and that made sense. I asked other people HOW they implemented her ideas, and to send me their "schedules" and those made sense.

I think that the Bravewriter philosophy and her ideas are excellent, but as she lives in a world of words, her idea of a beautiful, understandable page is different from mine. I am a truly visual person. If something doesn't have enough visual information I have trouble processing it. Now, if I am reading a novel, that is different....

So... I feel your pain and your confusion. I borrowed it from a friend and couldn't even read it. I put it on a shelf. Then my friend and I went to see her speak, and I was able to immediately implement some of her ideas. I think that if you are able to look at each section, and take notes about what she wants you to do, then you can in a sense "re-translate" it into your way of thinking. Now, I think that is a pain. I think that her cost for that book is very high...given that that is how I would need to utilize it.

Someone sent me a month long BW schedule they came up with and it made complete sense....I will email it to you if you want, I think it is too long to copy & paste here.

I love her ideas though, and try to implement them when I can.

Oooh. Not to start a stampede, but do you think you could e-mail me one too? I think my brain is similiar to yours. I have owned the book for several years, but have yet to use it. I have the opportunity to hear her speak this fall, but it is a lot of money for me (I think I'd rather spend it on HST, perhaps) but if I could manage to use what I already have of hers that would be great.

I took one of her online classes on copywork, and that helped me to understand the deep value of that. But I don't intend to do that again and again in order to really get the rest of her program.

I think it's very free-form and appeals to people comfortable with that. I think it also appeals to people who are relatively comfortable with writing and literature and tend to talk about these things with their children off the cuff. (So not me. Now science, OTOH, I can talk about all day, LOL.)
