gandpsmommy
Ds6.5 loved the Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, Kenny and The Dragon by Tony DiTerlizzi, and Dinosaur Trouble by Dick King-Smith. I'm looking for others that might pique his interest. Thanks for any ideas.

Laura Corin
There are lots more books by Dick King-Smith. They were a big hit here. We also enjoyed Charlotte's Web, A Cricket in Times Square, My Father's Dragon, Mr Popper's Penguins, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory... Don't forget the AA Milne books - Calvin still enjoys them at thirteen. Laura

Forget-Me-Not
My 7yo son is thoroughly enjoying the Ramona Quimby books by Beverly Cleary. We also just listened to her Ellen Tebbits on audio book (actually we're on our second round of it). So yeah, Beverly Cleary books! He also liked Harry Potter, though we made him stop after the 4th book. We'll let him pick up the other three when he's a bit older. We've also done Charlotte's Web and Farmer Boy. linders
that and the 3 other associated books, all of which are "prequels" to Peter Pan. DH has read them 3 times through with the boys. He has also read the first 4 books of the Harry Potter series to them, twice. (They don't get books 5-7 until they can read them themselves, which they now can.) I have tended towards classics. Faves have been: Wizard of Oz Finn Family Moomintroll (worth finding!) Pippi Longstocking Twenty-One Balloons Pinocchio Paddington Bear (the originals) Winnie-the Pooh series the Mrs. Piggle books everything by Roald Dahl Family Under the Bridge Buunicula (they laughed hysterically) You'll be able to get quite a list from this question!
