mo2
Would you combine 2 days' lessons into one and do them all, or would you skip some lessons? Just trying to figure some things out. I'm going to be starting an 8yo at level 1.
Satori
We're doing both in an accelerated pace now, but phasing in new programs as well. So we only do these 2-3 times a week, but each lesson has several lessons. For these subjects, I allocate only 10 minutes per lesson, as they're very simple and quick to do. For WWE we do two days - both a copywork and a narration. For FLL we do as many lessons as we can fit into 10 minutes. Usually this means that we're doing 2-4 (sometimes 5) lessons a day. We don't do any copywork except for writing on the whiteboard sometimes.
Rosy
You can definitely do two days in one for FLL1/2, and you may find some lessons to be redundant as well. There is a lot of repetition. I don't think it would be hard to finish both levels in a year, esp since each year is only 100 lessons.
truebluexf
What they said. :) And I would skip any superfluous crossovers, like no copywork from FLL if you are doing WWE. Also, since WWE is a lot of repetition, if your child is doing great, I would have no qualms skipping ahead a few weeks' worth of lessons at a time. FLL teaches a lot of the narration skills needed for WWE1.
MaMa2005
I scheduled FLL1/2 for three lessons per day. We will be finished by the middle of December. I actually scheduled WWE in a normal schedule, but DS has already asked to go faster so I am rescheduling it to coincide with FLL. There is LOTS of repetition. elise1mds
I'm doing FLL with 1-2 lessons per session. We're still taking two years to finish it, though, because I don't feel like I'm in a rush and he's not particularly excited about grammar. Just means we get days off. With WWE, I'm just not planning to finish the book. There's a new lesson every 4-5 weeks or so, with lots of repetition, so I'm just skipping lessons here and there. We're also starting Writing Strands, which will fill in some of the extra weeks and probably be more 'fun' for the boy.
Mallory
To speed up WWE, I would use the text and use the sample lessons until I needed to slow down. So I would skip weeks, but I might also do more than one lesson a day, especially for those early weeks. I also don't think there is any reason to start FLL at level 1. I think most kids can start FLL at level 3, even with no prior grammar. My 8 and 9yo did it just fine last year.
guateangel
You will be fine skipping and squeezing more than 1 lesson in at a time. We will be doing 2-4 lessons a day (skip if repetitive) 3x's a week and 'plan' to finish by Dec./Jan. for my 7.5 yr. old. If I feel we need to slow down, so be it. My goal is to have it completed by the end of the year but hoping for Dec. I would think you could do the same with WWE.
Crimson Wife
I also don't think there is any reason to start FLL at level 1. I think most kids can start FLL at level 3, even with no prior grammar. My 8 and 9yo did it just fine last year. :iagree::iagree::iagree: JW designed FLL 3 to be an entry level program for older beginners. All the important topics in FLL 1/2 are covered in FLL 3 (that's actually why I decided not to use it after my oldest finished the first level) at a pace more appropriate for an older child.
