NoPlaceLikeHome
Apparently our blogs and other small web sites and our freedom is at stake. Net neutrality is under assault and it is because of net neutrality that we can have blogs and other small web sites. Well these may go the way of the do-do bird if we do not act and call our representatives IMHO:( http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/05/technology/05secret.html?_r=2&hp Net neutrality enhances freedom of thought for both Republicans and Democrats and everyone in between. Net neutrality is also helping some countries in their fight to end tyranny. Net neutrality also enhances small businesses and jobs. Please consider calling your representatives now. NoPlaceLikeHome
IMHO the reason small web sites and blogs and message boards are at risk is because the big internet providers like Verizon and Comcast would love to charge internet web sites a lot of money in order to be seen. In other words, small web sites will have to pay a lot of money in order to play:( Consequently, a lot of web sites will not be able to pay and therefore go out of business. This hurts small business creation, job creation, and expression of free speech via blogs, online news, etc. This has the potential to hurt even message boards:eek: I would hate to see our internet become like the same old malls with the same mega big box stores in city after city:( Forty years it was not like this when you went shopping. There were tons of unique, interesting small stores in city after city.
NoPlaceLikeHome
Here is Consumer Reports take on this matter: http://blogs.consumerreports.org/electronics/2009/10/net-neutrality-buzzword-fcc-federal-communications-commission-consumers-union-john-mccain-open-internet-hearusnow.html
fhjmom
I am thinking this would also affect things like non-profits who operate on a shoestring budget but provide valuable information and support. Just one scary application I can see: in a medical setting, I can see the info from the big pharma companies that have the $$ to pay for faster access reaching those with medical conditions faster than the information from more neutral sources, like non-profits and support groups.:tongue_smilie: Net neutrality is a good thing. gaillardia
We are not supposed to sit still and do nothing! Thanks for posting this, Priscilla. We have to speak out. What would be next? Here a little and there a little and then...not so much freedom as we were used to...then what?
