Aoife
So we like to visit half price bookstores rather frequently and stock up on good deals. I am wondering if there are any books that are must haves for 1-4 grade that I should be looking out for to stock our supplemental library. I have my lists from our science and history (RSO and HO) already but was looking for extras since DS loves reading. :) thanks!
Diviya
Someone recently recommended this - it looks like a great resource to me. I printed it out and plan to take it to the library with me. Would also be great to take it to bookstores! http://www.classical-homeschooling.org/celoop/1000.html

Sebastian (a lady)
I tried to be really familiar with the Sonlight and Veritas Press reading lists. That helped me to identify books and authors that I wanted to grab.
Farrar
I've been gathering books from thrift stores for ages before I had kids. It helps that I'm already familiar with children's lit, but I have three thoughts: * Look for Newbery winners and honor books (they'll almost always have the Newbery medal on the cover, so then you don't have to remember it). * Think of classic titles from your own childhood that you loved and want to share. * Finally, if there are series that you know of that you think your dc will like when they get older (like Harry Potter or Magic Treehouse or anything...) then start collecting those. In2why
I picked up a bunch of the Encyclopedia Brown boy detective books at the thrift shops a while back and my dear boy is loving them. I also feel like it helps shore up some of his critical thinking skills. I remember reading them as a kid and I liked think they are great, although I could live without the new "improved" art on the front. (I liked when the boy detective looked a bit geeky and more like a normal boy)
Dee_Garretson
Along the same lines as Encyclopedia Brown (love those!) are the Henry Reed books by Keith Robertson. They're at about a 4th grade reading level.
