truebluexf
I've been planning on doing REAL science earth & space, but DS is asking over and over for chemistry...any suggestions? Thanks!
Mom in High Heels
Well, REAL Science Odyssey has a Chemistry program. We'll be using it this year for 3rd grade.
truebluexf
Yeah, I thought about that, but it doesn't recommend it til 2nd grade. DD1 is a young 1st grade so I don't want to go over her head. :)
FairProspects
What about Elemental Science Chemistry? Its designed to be used with 3rd graders, but says that it includes ways to adapt it down. We are using the K program and love it so far!
Satori
I'm interested in people's responses as well. My daughter is fascinated with molecules. We got an impromptu lesson from my cousin who is Chemistry teacher in high school, and she drew his sketches of a water molecule over and over. I already purchased RSO Chemistry, so I'd be all set if we were to start in. We're also having a blast in RSO Life, but she keeps asking about those darn molecules. She's only 5 though, but can usually handle some advanced stuff. So I'm curious...
Guest
Take a look at this: http://www.lawrencehallofscience.org/GEMS The teacher's guides are basically units with detailed materials lists, lesson plans, activities -- it's all hands-on -- extensions, assessment activities should you want any, nonfiction and fiction book lists for accompaniments. They are made with classrooms in mind, but I've used just about half of everything they produce with my daughter alone and with a small co-op group. They should work just fine with two kids. You can look by subject (chemistry) or grade level. The good thing is that they are designed to be used over multiple grade levels, so you should have no problem with the age spread between your two. Elfinlady
Noeo Chemistry Level 1? I have level 2 to use with my DD this year. We haven't actually started it yet, but it looks pretty neat!
Aubrey
We used NOEO Chem I w/ my 1st & 3rd g'er. I can't say enough good about it. It's lit-based, real books, & one of the books is an experiment book. I don't do messy, crafts, art, or science experiments, & these were still so fun & interesting, I couldn't resist. We made marshmallows, "lotion," taffy candy, jello, plastic, paint, etc. Lots of baking, but *easy* baking. Great explanations. My 2yo did some of the experiments w/ us. We used some for homemade Christmas gifts. We had SO much fun, & *I* learned a ton, even after honors Chem in highschool. We're doing Bio I & II this yr. Why? Because I don't want to miss I if we do II, lol. They're that great. Oh, & the cost. I compared their discounted prices w/ Amazon's used prices, & NOEO's still cheaper. I checked the books out from the library first, to see if we'd like them, & they were so good, I knew I'd eventually want to buy them anyway, so I bought the whole kit. The tm is really just a schedule, but that's worth gold *to me.*
blessed3x
We used Real Science 4 Kids Pre-Level Chemistry for K-3 in the second grade. My ds really enjoyed it. Here is the link: http://www.gravitaspublications.com/_product_36087/Pre-Level_1_Chemistry__Bundle I hope this helps!
