Robin's Song
My mom refused to speak to me about homeschooling all last year (passive aggressive). We are visiting her on vacation right now, and I was surprised when she bought dd some school and craft supplies. Then she said she wanted to buy me a cricut because she thinks it would be great for school stuff. I think this is her olive branch :). Anyways, I googled it to see what it was. I still don't really understand. If you have a cricut, what do you use it for?
Delighted3
I have a cricut and I love it, but I use it mainly for scrapbooking. School applications could be bulletin boards, notebooking pages, games, manipulatives, making books for lapbooking, and display boards for projects. There are educational cartridges like for the 50 states, cursive, printing, and several others. I think that the school application is more for teachers of classrooms and in spite of having some ideas for using my cricut for school stuff, I have never really followed through because I don't take the time. I did make my workbox tags with my cricut, but that is the only time I have ever directly used it for school. It is a very fun thing to have, but the cost doesn't end with the cricut, you have to buy cartridges too. Ebay usually has the best prices if you look for a good price. LunaLee
Oh I totally want one and I don't scrapbook. I mostly use it for dc notebooking pages and various projects. I probably could find a bunch of ways to use it for some mixed media art projects as well.
EJCMom
I have one. My wonderful DH bought it for me for Mother's Day one year. I've used it exactly twice. I feel really bad about it. I'm just not that creative and I have a hard time coming up with projects for it. Plus, I don't have the space to just leave it out, so even when I do come up with a project that I could use it for, it isn't worth the trouble to me to drag it out and set it up. thescrappyhomeschooler
I have one, but I am a scrapbooking addict, so I use it frequently. I just bought the My Community and My World cartridges (on sale at Michaels! Woo-hoo!) because I thought they would be good for various history, science and language arts projects. I love my Cricut! Satori
I want one just because it's probably something I can't afford, but it looks very cool. I always see them at Michaels. I don't scrapbook either. If my mom bought me one, I'd be ecstatic! It looks like accessories are needed to utilize it though. Good thing Michaels has some fabulous Internet coupons now! Just this week I got 40% off one item plus 20% off my entire order.
Harry Nelson in Charlotte
My wife has one and really digs it. She has used it for some scrapbooking stuff, but also some home decorating. Some crafty things, like cutting out our kids names and putting that on the cover of their notebooks. All kinds of uses. And, I echo the other poster - if its an olive branch from your mom, I don't care if its a fuzzy green hat with a blinking light - take it, and say thank you...:001_smile: Edited August 4, 2010 by Harry Nelson in Charlotte grammar, of course... 4besitos
It's an olive branch....accept it.:001_smile: My Mom has one and my children (boys included) love going to her house to use it. It can be used for notebooking pages, scrapbooking, labeling, cards....if your children are in a group like Scouts, you can also make vinyl letters for fundraising signs. JoAnns and Michaels put the cartridges on sale regularly.

Allearia
I have one my mom gave me for my birthday. I don't scrapbook but it is fun to make cards with. I have also used it to cut out vinyl to make super cool etched glass mugs as gifts (Merry Christmas everyone!). Supposedly you can also use it to cut fabric for quilting or appliques, but I haven't done that yet. My husband got me a computer program, Sure Cuts A Lot, so I can design things on the computer and connect it to the Cricut to cut out custom designs. It is $70 but cheaper than buying a ton of cartridges at $35-$80 each. There are a lot of blogs with holiday and other designs and ideas. You can make custom party favor boxes, etc. if you get the program. I used them a couple times to make cupcake wrappers that looked FABULOUS. So even if you don't scrapbook there is a lot of great stuff you can do.
Robin's Song
Thank you for your replies! I'm still having a hard time visualizing what I would use it for. My dd6 is really into making homemade cards so perhaps I could use it for that. Is it something I could teach her to use when she wants to, or would I have to do it for her? I don't scrapbook, but I think it's neat :tongue_smilie:. Perhaps it is something we would use more as the kids get older??? I appreciate the olive branch, whether or not she buys me the cricut. She was thinking ahead to gifting me with the cricut for Christmas. She wants to get me something I will like, so she truly does want to know if I will use it or not. Either way, it won't hurt her feelings.
