I have a 2nd grader and a 3rd grader using R&S for English and Spelling. They do an English lesson each day. Much of it is done orally, so it doesn't take long.

For Spelling, on Monday they do Part A of the workbook. On Tuesday they do Part B (and C, in my 3rd grader's case). On Wednesday they take the test. That's it. I don't do any extra teaching or a 2nd test because I haven't felt the need. So far they've both been getting 100% correct on their tests.

Well, R&S's English is more than just grammar. It's writing and using reference materials and oral communication and more. When I used it, we did English every day.

We did Spelling by Sound and Structure 4 days a week, with a spelling test on Fridays.

Both kids get a practice drill on Monday plus part A

Tue - they do part B (3rd grader writes her words as part of handwriting)

Wed - they do part C

Thurs - 3rd grader takes test (if she gets a 100 she doesn't retake on Fri)

8th grader does part D

Fri - 8th grader takes test (whatever he misses gets added to the next week's list)

3rd grader if retakes and still misses words are added to next week's list

Hope this gives you a few ideas!
