FaithManor
Today, for the first time in 25 years, I rode a horse! My children take dressage lessons and since all my riding during my teen years was western with absolutely no formal training at all, I knew this was going to be different. But, I didn't realize how wonderful the benefits would be. I have a very badly damaged ankle from my college years and it has been swelling a lot lately and not due to any excessive walking or exercising at all. Once I was in the saddle, she noticed that my range of motion was poor and I couldn't hold my foot at the correct ankle. She began massaging it and gently working it. Low and behold, it began popping and cracking, though not painfully at all, and before I knew it, I had full range of motion back! She then went on to correct some posture issues related to using my core muscles and engaging some muscle group whose name I can't remember, Now my back feels better than it has felt in years. She warned me that I will feel it tomorrow because the muscles will be sore but that this would go away with regular riding work. I wonder how often I can get her to massage my ankle? She's better than any physical therapist, chiropractor, or massage therapist that I have been to! Faith
hornblower
Well - there you go. You HAVE to ride. It's medicinal. Do you think we could get a prescription for it & get extended health to pay? :)
FaithManor
Now wouldn't that just be a piece of heaven! My insurance company paying for my riding lessons....boy I like the sound of that. The policy costs $15,000.00 per year and they never see a claim on me because I gave up trying to find a doctor that would listen. So, I think I'm due!!!! Here's another interesting thought....my trainer does equine therapy for kids with C.P., Down's Syndrome, Autism, Closed Head Injuries, etc. I wonder if anyone's insurance reimburses the parents for this or if they are just out the cash. She gets some amazing results. Faith
