homeschoolmommaof4
Ok, we are studying Ancient China this week and one of the projects we have chosen os from SOTW1 - Make a Ming Bowl. My children really want to be able to actually eat from thier bowls after we are done. The book recommends sealing the pain with a glue mixture brushed on, but is there some kind of spray i can use to really seal in and waterproof the clay and paint? It will need to stand up to multiples washes (by hand of course) and I would hate to wing-it and try something that ends up ruining our bowls. Any suggestions? Also want something that is obviously safe to eat on and deosn't have any lingering chemicals once dry. WalMart had some kind of Mod Podge high gloss sealant, available in a bottle and a spray can. WOuld this work?
LauraGB
No matter what you use to seal it, I still don't think I would put food in it; I'm not sure what chemicals or lead content the clay would have to begin with. Could you convince them to put other things in the bowl so everyone could admire the new beautiful art piece?
Suzanne115
We made the bowl and my daughter keeps it on her desk now. She keeps tiny treasures in it. I wouldn't want to use it for food either. Suzanne
