5knights3maidens
We have a goldfish and tadpole in a 2.5 gallon tank. I put water conditioner in it (for the tap water/chlorine) a day before we put the fish in. It is now really cloudy and they are starting to struggle. Is there anyway I can save them?! hornblower
What kind of filtration are you using?
5knights3maidens
None?? I didn't think (and they didn't say we needed one), you needed one for a goldfish? I'm dumb? :tongue_smilie: :tongue_smilie:
hornblower
You need a filter and a bigger tank. 2.5gal is way too small. You could keep one beta fish (Siamese fighting fish) in 2.5 gal unfiltered but even they do better with some aeration & you need to do partial water changes frequently. I'm sad someone sold that to you because it's just not going to work. Here's a good intro to keeping goldfish. http://www.firsttankguide.net/goldfish.php In the right circumstances, they can live for decades. 5knights3maidens
Thanks for your help. I'm taking the tadpole out and I have a small filter in the garage. I will see if we can save this fish. Thanks again. Thanks for the website.
5knights3maidens
I put the tadpole in another tank, found our small filter, and the goldfish is doing great. Thanks!

I'm dumb? :tongue_smilie: :tongue_smilie: Not dumb. Inexperienced. You could have just changed the water too. Yes, goldfish need filtration. They are some of the dirtiest fish out there. When I worked at the pet store while in college, we used goldfish to cycle the water systems in new tanks. The general rule is 1 inch of fish for each gallon of water. Two fish in a 2.5 gallon tank is too much.
