Julie in CA
Is it a good place to go for glasses or an exam? How much should I figure glasses will cost? Just found out during dd's quickie check-up at the ped. that her eyesight is 20/50x3 (Is that bad?). None of us have ever needed glasses before, so I don't really know what to expect. They gave us a referral to an optometrist (said she didn't need an ophthalmologist), but would Costco be less expensive? And just in case anyone knows, can I use money from my HSA for the exam and/or the glasses?
BikeBookBread
My friend is an optometrist, and works part time at a Costco, and the rest of her time at a private practice. The optometrists are (as far as I know) all in private practice, and just lease space. My Dad has purchased quite a few glasses there, and has had very good service. Gooblink
We always buy our glasses/contacts at Costco, but we get our exams elsewhere. Not that I wouldn't consider it, we just have other eye doctors we like. Costco prices are hard to beat and we've never had an issue with quality. Miss Peregrine
We use Costco for the exam and glasses. We have been very happy with the service and the drs. I usually get my frames between $40-$60. When we used to go to a private dr. we had a hard time finding them under $100.

patchfire
I just started using them, but I was really pleased with the optometrist there! THe prices on their contacts are awesome, too. (Haven't gotten glasses there yet.)
KatieJ
I have eye issues, so our family goes else where for exams, but we fill all get our contacs and glasses thru Costco. My son has had problems getting his gas perms contacs this time around. Costco refunded our money when they didn't work out..no questions asked. He is still having issues with them altho he has now purchased them thru our eye Dr. :glare:

Yes, the optometrist are independent and do not work for Costco so the exam is as good as the optometrist who gives it. We've never had any problems with the glasses/contacts from Costco. Great prices and customer service.
gingersmom
They are all independent optometrists so I would check them out before taking my child there. I take my children to an independent optometrist and then have their prescription filled at Lens Crafters. I have their eye doctor check the lens and their never is a problem.
