plain jane
I posted this on the General Board but I'm thinking I should have done it here instead. I hope it's okay if I repost here.:o I'm still working through SOTW3 with rising 4th grader and have been working on finishing off my reading list and ordering the rest of my books. My plan is to finish SOTW3 and 4 by next Sept and start fresh with Ancients for grade 5. I know it's a big task but for a first go-round I know we can accomplish this. I think that we'll use HO for our second go-round but I'm not 100% on this yet. I'm not sure what else we would do. Thing is, after looking around on various sites, these are some of books I have on the reading list (that I would buy) to finish SOTW3: Amos Fortune, Free Man Witch of Blackbird Pond Island of the Blue Dolphins Sign of the Beaver Johnny Tremain Carry On, Mr. Bowditch Dd just finished reading LOTR trilogy so her reading level is up there but I don't want to choose books that are too mature for her age. Also, I don't wish to read so many books this time around that there's few to choose from in grade 7. There are more books that we'll read, but I mention these because I just happened upon the RR catalog and noticed that these books are mentioned in HO level 2. I looked at the level 1 books but they are too simple for her (and she's already read them). If I do the above books this year, won't that ruin a good year of HO Early Modern level 2 in grade 7? Sigh. So, what to do? Which of the above would you skip until grade 7, or should I skip them all? But then, what to read this year?
stephanie
:lurk5: Jane, there are so many good books to read for that time period that there will be plenty to choose from, IMO. So if these you've selected look interesting then just stick with them.
Rebecca77
The list you have looks great for a 4th grader. Most are from SL's Core 3, except for Amos Fortune, which is from Core 100, so I'd probably wait on that one.
