FaithManor
How comprehensive would is this book? My 8th grader is excellent in English and writing. Though I've always used Abeka grammar and composition for the middle school years, I think it was overkill for him last year and worry about really boring him this year. His English curriculum is the only curriculum I haven't purchased. Thanks, Faith
MommyThrice
I'll take a stab at it. I have not used the book, but we are starting it next week with my 9th grader. You can look at a sample and table of contents on Amazon... http://www.amazon.com/New-Oxford-Guide-Writing/dp/0195090594/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1280758568&sr=1-1#_ I think each chapter gives an excellent explanation of the topic, gives excellent examples, and then ends with a nice writing assignment to practice the concept. I have broken the book down into a 16-week course, working through 3 chapters the 1st week, 4 the next, then 2 a week after that. In January or February we will start on a spring research paper. BTW, this book doesn't assign topics. YOU choose the topics, it just explains how to organize, write, and edit. Hope that helps.
