LynnG in Arizona
If you are using, or have used, both Handwriting Without Tears and McRuffy Phonics K, do you end up using the handwriting in McRuffy at all? Is it an important reinforcement of the phonics lessons? It seems like it might be, especially in later lessons. My daughter (5 in Oct.) just finished her HWT Pre-K book. She knows how to make her capital letters, but we have not yet worked on lower case writing, in accordance with HWT Pre-K. I'm sitting here with McRuffy Phonics K, plus I bought the supplemental handwriting book in case I wanted to use it. It seems like an extremely complete language arts package for kindergarten. It would seem very easy and efficient to use the integrated package. However . . . I have been impressed by HWT thus far, and would like to continue. What have you done? Skipped the McRuffy handwriting and just substituted HWT kindergarten? Or has anybody found it better/easier to drop HWT and just use McRuffy handwriting K as written? Thanks for your help! :)
nukeswife
I use the handwriting assignments from McRuffy but type them up in startwrite in the HWT font. You could either look at the workbook for handwriting which you have to get the assignments, but they are also listed in the TM.
BatmansWife
My dd did the HWT PreK book, but when we started McRuffy K we just switched to the McRuffy handwriting book. We like it. The words and sentences to copy and write each day go along with that lesson. I found it just easier for me to not have to rewrite/retype them in a differnt style. We are using the McRuffy Traditional.
LynnG in Arizona
Kel and AprilMay, I was hoping you would chime in! :) Thanks for your input. Not sure what I want to do here . . . I hadn't thought of using Startwrite or Educational Fonts to type up the assignments in HWT font. Hmmm, off to ponder . . . thank you again! Any other input would be welcome. It's always helpful to see what different families do. ;)
