Wyndie
What do you guys do with those annoying dust covers or dust jackets or whatever they're called on books? I remove them b/c they annoy me in a major way, but DH likes to keep them. So we have a stack of unused book covers basically, that I have no intention of ever putting back on the books. Do you keep your covers? Do you toss them? :bigear:
wendybird
Usually I toss them. DH is compulsive about saving them, and really cares that they stay pristine lol.
Ellie
I confess: I keep mine, on the books. When I read a book, I take off the dust cover while I'm reading it, and put it back on to mark my place when I set the book down. Books with original dust covers have more resale value. Miss Peregrine
I leave them on until they are ragged and then toss them. I don't intend to resell them.
elegantlion
I take them off while reading and put them back on afterward. I like the look of a book with a jacket, if it is designed to have one.
Garga
I take them off while reading and put them back on afterward. I like the look of a book with a jacket, if it is designed to have one. That's what I do. If I ever do want to sell them in the future, they're worth more with the covers.
TrixieB
I toss most of them, but I do save dust jackets for books I plan to sell, and for very special well-loved books.
Wyndie
DH would never resell a book (you should see the 2k+ collection that lives in my closet). I think he just likes them too much to see them tossed in the trash. I didn't realize it made their resale value higher though. Incidentally, I find it weird when the dust jacket is the exact same as the cover of the book...
pqr
I keep them on the book and put mylar protectors on the DJ.
Wyndie
I've never heard of that pqr. You may be a step above my husband in his protectiveness of books. :)

KrissiK
I toss them. And feel guilty. But then again, I feel guilty about most everything these days.
Athome
Toss!! It's just stuff. Don't let stuff rule your life. Freedom!!

eaglei
I take them off while reading and put them back on afterward. I like the look of a book with a jacket, if it is designed to have one. :iagree: I confess: I keep mine, on the books. When I read a book, I take off the dust cover while I'm reading it, and put it back on to mark my place when I set the book down. Books with original dust covers have more resale value. On rare occasions, I also do this - use the cover as a marker - but only until I get a real book mark - we have a drawer full!:D I keep them on the book and put mylar protectors on the DJ. I did this a very long time ago to a few select books.:)
tofuscramble
I leave them on but they annoy me and they annoy me even more when they are on my kids books.
RoughCollie
I keep the DJ on the book and use the flaps to mark my place, if the book is not my own. (If I own the book, I just turn down page corners.) DH puts mylar covers on all DJs in this house. To him, tossing a DJ or not protecting it is a major crime. In2why
I use the flap as my book mark. But I don't quite understand the purpose. They collect more dust not less. :D
bbsweetpea
I take them off and put them in the top of the closet. If I were to resell the book I would drag it out and sell it with the book.
Tap
I keep a tote in the attic for the dust jackets. I don't keep them on while we are actually using the book I put them back on when I sell the book.
Melissa in Australia
I keep them on the book. I actually cover some of them with contact( like the dust cover on WTM). they are made for the book. I think it weird that people would remove them.

It's just stuff. Don't let stuff rule your life. Freedom!! That just made me laugh! I feel the same but am trying to understand DH's perspective. If I were not married, they would be tossed. :D

Hannah C.
In the case of books that are, say, plain black on the actual cover and have the cover art on the dust jacket, I keep it on the book and take it off if it gets annoying while I'm reading it. Usually that isn't often. Most of my books do not have dust jackets, or the jackets stay on easily enough. Having a book with the dust jacket does make it more valuable. If you have no prospect of selling the books, and/or none of your books are at all valuable, then toss the jackets. Or, just keep the jackets of ones you might resell/ones you think might be valuable. I would keep the jackets of books if only the jacket had the cover art, but that's me. :)
