butterfly113
I am torn.... i know we can't do it all.... that is the beauty of TOG.... we make it fit... etc.... HOWEVER.... about half of the weeks in the year we really want to read the UG AND D Literature selections......... Our issue is that some of the UG books will be easy reads... but just good ones we don't want to miss... and some of the D reads are just ones you can't miss either....... So...... my options? 1. Cram totally going against the concept and grain.... right!? RIGHT! 2. Read the D levels at bedtime? (We ALWAYS read at bedtime anyway, so I could use these for that purpose)??? 3. Read the D level books over the summer after year 1??? What would you do? Other suggestions?????????????????? :bigear: :bigear: :bigear:
1bassoon
Are you going to have another go 'round of TOG 1 at the Dialectic level? If you are - I'd just save them for then. A 10 year-old is a little young for D, usually.

RobinF
This is our first year using TOG and we are doing UG with ds who will be in 5th and 10.5 yo. I know we will have another time through and I want this to be easy for us to start using.
johnandtinagilbert
dd is nearly 11, entering grade 5 and we're doing a bit of both. We're using UG history and doing both ug and d lit. b/c it's her favorite subject of school, she's a fast reader, and I can't bear to miss them :) We will not do this go around again for D b/c we take forever to complete a TOG rotation (6 years). I won't expect her to do the work of UG worksheets and will ease her into D lit analysis over the next 2 years, so in 7th grade, she'll be analyzing deeply, and just getting her feet wet this year. Shelly in the Country
This is totally just my experience with my dd 10 last year using TOG Year 1: She's a strong reader so I knew Dialectic would be closest to her reading level, but just like you I thought some of the UG books just couldn't be missed. I went with D for the most part. If I really, really, really liked the look of the UG selection, I skipped the D selection for that week. This worked for the most part. My dd enjoyed the UG books I had selected, but they were a tad easy for her.
