fhjmom
DS is leaving today (Thursday) for overnight camp for the first time with our church's childrens ministry. He will be gone until Monday. He has never even spent the night with anyone except my mom & dad, so I am a little nervous. I am generally a pretty "non-helicopter" type, and I know he will have a blast! I am actually kind of surprised it has gotten me shook-up at all. He is not nervous about it at all (or at least hasn't let on about it if he is) and is very excited. I am trying to get over my apprehensiveness and stay postive for him. Part of my concern is that they do a lot of water stuff, some of it in a lake and DS is just not a very strong swimmer, but he is usually pretty cautious, so I am just praying he won't take any unneccessary risks. Anyway, I would appreciate any "calm mommy and safe DS having a great time and getting closer to God" prayers and positive thoughts you might share over the next few days! fhjmom
Thanks, Jean! Well, we just got back from dropping him off at church. We waited around until the busses pulled out and I managed not to freak out before they left. Another friend was there sending her DD off for the first time and I think she was much more anxious than I was, so it helped to know I am not alone! LOL! I know he will have a great time and I remember how camp was always such a great experience for me spiritually when I was a kid/teen. I am praying he will have the smae type of camp experience, too! Jean in Newcastle
:grouphug: I think that first drop off is hardest, and then perhaps occupying yourself without worrying for the rest of the day. . .
Daisy
You bet! I"m going to need the same prayers in a week and a half. AGHGHG. My 10yo (almost 11yo) will be going to camp for the first time. I'm a mess. She's excited and scared at the same time.
Starr
I'm praying for you and your son. I always told my kids that they have camp right at home. We would go to the river to swim every day, see friends, arts and crafts and play outside with friends and go to church. lol Now at 16 dd is off in Peru on a mission trip! carlychan
I did this a few weeks ago with Scout Camp. My 11 year old had stayed at his grandparents' home a couple of times, but nothing more than one night. He was gone for 6 nights! I thought I would be nervous and tense with worry the whole time, but I was not. I *KNEW* he would be ok. The water is always a worry for me. He is a good swimmer, but anything can happen. I was afraid they wouldn't supervise like I do (and they probably don't). He did have a tent mate that used foul language and that rubbed off on him a bit. That took 2 slip ups on his part and he stopped. I guess if that is the worst thing from scout camp I should be happy:) Good luck! It will go by quickly...and God will take care of him.
