Chaqar
We are going to be using Veritas' Explorers to 1815 next year and, for those of you who have used their cards and books, how do you know how much reading to assign? I should add...we already memorized the timeline in CC so we won't do the Veritas song, and I do not plan on using the worksheets and tests a whole lot either. Mainly I plan to rely on group and independent reading with (at least) weekly narrations, but I'm not sure how much is realistic to expect. I tend to set my expectations too high. My oldest DS will be 4th grade. He both loves to read and reads very quickly. Obviously I will expect much less from the second DS who is only in 2nd grade. He also reads well, but savors the experience. ;) Any help from veterans of Veritas is much appreciated!
yvonne
My boys (9 year old, 4th graders last year) did the live, online Veritas Press Scholars Middle Ages, Ren., Ref. class last year. They read all the resources listed on the back of the card (except for one book I'd lost), as well as some literature books that went along with the period. I think we skipped one literature selection due to time, but all the other reading was more than doable for my boys. I didn't really schedule the resource reading. They knew they had to read each week's resources during that week, before they did that week's test. It probably came out to, at most, 45 minutes per day, three days a week. Sometimes a lot less. One day, they'd read the card and do the worksheet. The next three days, they'd spend up to 45 minutes each day reading resources. The fifth day, they'd do the test. Don't bother scheduling specific resources. Just schedule a 30-45 minute history reading period 3 days a week and let them at it. yvonne
