Need Advice on Williamsburg

Recommended Posts

My best friend and I would love to go to Williamsburg during the homeschool days. Can anyone recommend a good place to stay that is pretty cheap? We would love to stay together, such as a condo, but I'm having a hard time searching for one that is affordable for us. We will have 2 adults, 2 teens, and 3 kids with the youngest being 5. We could do rooms and ask for connecting.

Are there any board members who live there or have traveled there enough to know a good place?

Thanks for any advice!

We took a spur of the moment trip during hs days last September. I was also on a tight budget, and we stayed at Quality Inn. We usually stay at slighter nicer hotels, but I'd stay at this one again. It was just me with my kids, and I felt safe. The staff was very friendly, the location was convenient, and while it did not have a kitchen, there was a grocery store around the corner (too busy to walk to, imo). They also had a pool (can't remember if it was still open), and free breakfast.

I have never been, but I have a friend that went last spring. Her family stayed at Kees vacations Parkside resort. She said it was great! They could eat breakfast in the kitchen of the condo and see the roller coasters over at Busch Gardens. It might not be the closest to Williamsburg, but she is THE most picky person I know.

I'm copying and pasting an email to our homeschool group. I think is a really good rate, but I have never stayed there!

During the year, Colonial Williamsburg designates several weeks as Homeschooler Experiences. This fall, the dates are September 11-26th. Condos are available at a discounted rate to homeschool families at the Historic Powhatan Resort in Williamsburg during this time. Here are the rates:

For Sunday-Thursday night stays, 2-bdrm condo w/ full kitchen (sleeps 6) $65/night, 4-bdrm $130/night

For Friday and Saturday night stays, 2-bdrm condo w/ full kitchen (sleeps 6) $95/night, 4-bdrm $190

All stays require a 2 night minimum to be booked. A one-time booking fee of $35 will be charged in addition to the total.

To make reservations please email Chris or Rachel Joyner at freebie73@gmail.com or call (703) 850-3444. To view Powhatan's Website go to:

We stayed in a 2bd condo at the Powhatan last year and it we would go back. We booked through a private owner on http://www.Homeaway.com.

I think we paid about $75/ night through the owner. The website for the resort lists the rooms as much, much more expensive. So you might want to search for a private condo owner. Actually, I think ours was rented with timeshare points the owner had.
