Hot Lava Mama
Does anyone know which book SWB is referring to on page 58 of WTM (3rd edition)? It says, "Susan...spend six weeks reading through a lavishly illustrated child's version ofthe Iliad...." I would love to have something like this for my little ones. Can anyone help? Thanks! Capt_Uhura
Thanks SWB! BTW, I love, LOVE all of your MP3s. Thank you for producing them and pricing them so reasonably.

I had just talked myself into doing American history this year. You all are killing me! I just bought a copy. It will make a nice prelude to the audio version of the Odyssey someone else here brought to my attention. :tongue_smilie:

crazyforlatin
Oh. My. I had just talked myself into doing American history this year. You all are killing me! I just bought a copy. It will make a nice prelude to the audio version of the Odyssey someone else here brought to my attention. :tongue_smilie: I do like Sutcliff's version. It's an oversized book with a comfortable font size for a small child. We are listening to the audio book Tales from the Odyssey by Mary Pope Osborne. It seems geared towards K-4, and it's read well by a British actor. Is this what was recommended to you? If not, I would love to hear if there is another great audio version. I'm trying to have DD listen to different versions of this tale. ETA: Just found an audio recording of Odysseus by Geraldine McCaughrean at the library. DarlaS
Please share. This is the one I bought: http://www.amazon.com/Tales-Odyssey-Collection-Mary-Osborne/dp/0061254576/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1280405313&sr=8-13 I haven't listened to it yet, but I am assuming it is the same one someone mentioned as I didn't see any other versions. Hot Lava Mama I had always assumed she was referring to Jane Werner Watson's Golden Press The Iliad and the Odyssey, with its notable Provensen illustrations. There's a sort of homage to it here. Hot Lava Mama
for that information! Thanks very much SWB! I appreciate that you took the time to answer my question! This board is GREAT! I could not home school without it. Some of my best choices were a direct result of stuff from this board. Hot Lava Mama
Cleopatra
..... though not so comprehensive and lavish as the Sutcliff version, this book is interesting as well, and especially helpful for younger children to familiarize them with the story .... http://www.amazon.com/Iliad-Odyssey-Marcia-Williams/dp/1406303488/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1280507505&sr=1-6 Generally I do not include comic books and education in the same sentence ;) but I must admit, Marcia Williams does a great job! When my dd was younger she learned the plots of the Iliad and Odyssey, Shakespearean plays, Dickens novels, The Canterbury Tales, etc. from her books (among others). Around the edges of the comic she includes illustrations of people commenting on the story, and includes direct quotes from the original versions as well. I'm trying to borrow from the library different versions of the Illiad and Odyssey because DD is fascinated with the story.
