wy_kid_wrangler04
I am going to start this with my ds along with phonics pathways. There are books and there are 1/2 books that say they are extra practice. Are these set up so you do book 1 then 1 1/2 then 2 then 2 1/2 or are the half books there for extra practice only if you dc needs it after the frist book? Example. If my ds does excellent with book 1, is book 1 1/2 still recommended or would we move on to book 2? I am asking because if it is recommended to go through all full and 1/2 levels I want to order that way, but if its for extra help in understanding then I am going to wait and see. Thanks! kokotg
I haven't done any of the half levels with DS (and reading didn't come particularly easy to him), and that's worked fine for us.
twoxcell
We have never used half books either, but ETC has been a supplement to Phonics Pathways for us.
mamato3 all-boy boys
I used it 2 1/2 as a help. DS did book 1 and 2 online in kindergarten, and needed more review come the fall of 1st grade. So, we did 2 1/2 for the first part of last year, then moved on the 3 then 4.
Jen in PA
We never used the 1/2 books. I bought 1 1/2 when DD was starting, but it just never got used (aside from DS scribbling in it....).We have found there to be enough practice in the whole number books, but I imagine you could just order the 1/2 book if there is a concept that needs more reinforcement. Bright_Future
:iagree: with the other posters. I did not use 1/2 books with son and I don't plan on using them with daughter. I suppose if a child just really could not get one of the books I might use the 1/2 to reinforce, but I have not come across this problem. NavyWifeandMommy
I ordered the 1/2 books too just in case extra help was needed. We are just finishing up with 1 and I think Ican just move onto 2. I am going to use the 1/2 books to keep one child busy while I work with the other. Nothing wrong with extra review and my younger ones enjoy the ETC. Chocolate Lover
I did have DS use the 1 1/2 book after the 1 book, but before the 2 book. He was going so fast, "I" didn't catch on that he already understood the 1 book. It was reassuring to me to know that he could do it. I had also bought the 2 1/2 book and still have it untouched. notbefore7
Nothing "new" to add, but just in agreement. We have only needed the whole number books for now. We are in book 7. My second dd is taking a bit longer to absorb the phonics, so she might end up needing to review with half book. Often I have found that a break from ETC and a dive into something else for a bit does the trick to review without the additional workbook. Good luck!
