Hunter's Moon
Someone mentioned this to me previously. I brushed it off, but thinking about it now, it sounds like a pretty good idea. I will be using Ambleside Online and a lot of the books in Year 11, especially in Literature, aren't online. I hate reading online anyways. If I made two sets of books and I took set 1 out and then after 5 weeks took set 1 out, then after 5 weeks get set 2 again, and continue that way, would that be a bad way to do it? I really don't have any other options other than reading two times more a week than suggested, which wouldn't be much at all, but I would run out of things to read quicker and I fear my narrations and such would not be as thorough and rushed. Has anyone tried this? Thanks.
momee
I'd love to help you but I am confused as to your ? :)
woolybear
Do you mean instead of spreading the reading over 10 consecutive weeks, say, you read for 5 weeks then took a break and read set two for five weeks. I am also assuming you mean taking it out from the library. Do I understand you correctly?
Amy Jo
If I'm understanding correctly (that you are using the library and can't spread the books out) I would take the book list, and ignore the schedule. So instead of 2 books for Literature per term, spread out, read one book, then the other. If you are on yahoo, there is an HEO group (upper level Ambleside). There is also a schedules group. You might get more help there. Otherwise, just write the library books down in order, and read fewer at a time, but faster. HTH Amy
Hunter's Moon
Sorry everyone. It is hard for me to explain. I think I'll just do as a PP recommended and completely ignore the schedule on Ambleside. What I planned on doing was dividing the amount of books per term into two groups. Say I had to read 6 books Term 1. My first set of books would be Books 1, 2, and 3. My second set of books would be 4, 5, and 6. At my library, the max anything can be out is 5 weeks, and that is if I am able to renew. I wanted to take out set 1 first, read for 5 weeks and then when I brought back the set 1 books, take out set 2 books and read those for 5 weeks. Then, if I wasn't finished with set 1, I would take those out again and read those. Sorry, it is a bit confusing. I really wanted to follow the schedule but I see that won't happen. Thanks. Sorry if I confused anyone. I confused myself. Lol.
Kfamily
Just an idea... History Pick one supplemental book for Term 1, 2 biographies from Term 1 and all the speeches and documents could be printed (there are 7 for term 1). Keep those for 5 weeks and then return and check out one more supplemental book from Term 1 and 1 more biography. You could spread the speeches and documents out doing one every two weeks. You can always substitute a different book/biography if your library doesn't have a specific title. Year 11 has a long list of other people you might want to read about. Do this for each term. It looks like Term 3 has the most speeches and documents so you might want to arrange to bear that in mind with regard to your reading load in both history and literature (and poetry if you're doing it too.) Literature There are 6 books for the year (two each term) and 8-12 short stories. I might choose to go with 12 short stories so that along with the 18 essays would equal 30. You could then alternate and do roughly either one short story or 1 essay per week. If you choose one book for Term 1, read it for 5 weeks along with your alternating essay/short story and whatever number of poems you'd like to cover. Then return it and check out the second one for the term. The essays and short stories could be printed out but if you don't want to do that you could add the short stories as one reading (and get a good anthology from the library) and the poety in one set (one volume) and the essays as one set. This would bring the literature total to 9 books. Do two for each term and one of the sets (essays, short stories, poetry). Don't worry about overlaps. Hope this is even remotely helpful. Good luck and I'm sure you'll put together a good plan. I think you are managing quite well. Just want to pass on some thoughts...:001_smile:. That was a wonderful, descriptive suggestion! That is probably what I will end up doing. I really wanted to follow the AO schedule, but I can see that it won't be possible. Thank you so much for your help, and thank you everyone else as well!
