the4Rs
Seeing the other thread about homemade Christmas gifts, I really want to do this for everyone for Christmas this year as I have joined the Advent Conspiracy :D... I loved the tiered serving tray and book mark ideas. But I have four teenage/tweenage nieces and nephews and I am in need of some good homemade gift ideas for them. What would you recommend??? One girl loves music. One girl likes being on the lake. One boy loves girls :tongue_smilie:and hunting. The other boy enjoys skateboarding and is more of a loner. Ideas? starwarsmomma
Tote bags are fun and easy. You could customize the fabric to their taste.
Old Dominion Heather
I don't know... I can't think of anything homemade that a teen is going to actually use except maybe a hand knitted hat/gloves/socks, or food. The girls might like pretty handmade soaps. What about cookies or candy wrapped up in a box, just for them?
*Lulu*
I think these could be useful for a teen if they were made with the right fabrics. http://www.purlbee.com/sewn-stash-baskets/ http://www.jcarolinecreative.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=JC&Screen=TOTEBAG
happypamama
I knitted headbands and neck warmers for some teen friends a few years ago, and they seemed to like them. Other than that, I love the idea of cookies/candies just for them. :)

justamouse
I bet they would love to receive a bag of these or this sundae kit My grandma gives my older kids a movie they like, boxes and boxes of popcorn, and basket of treats for a home movie night. These (marshmallows dipped in chocolate, rolled in sugar and speared with a peppermint stick), especially with a jar of homemade hot chocolate mix. All of my kids love these and they whip out so fast I've actually made one every day. girls would like a wrap or these

Onceuponatime
Flannel pillow cases are easy and fun. I've made them for boys and girls. For boys I've used nature themed (wolves, bears, etc.) or plaid, or camoflauge flannel. Flannel sleep pants are unisex. They are a little more involved but still easy. Jenny in Florida
Flannel pillow cases are easy and fun. I've made them for boys and girls. For boys I've used nature themed (wolves, bears, etc.) or plaid, or camoflauge flannel. I made pillowcases for my kids last year. My son, who was deeply, deeply into the Percy Jackson books at the time, got a pair of orange pillowcases with "Property of Cabin #3" written on the edges. (I wanted to embroider, but ran out of time.) My daughter, who was still completely in love with the Broadway revival of "Hair," got pillowcases with peace signs and a quote from the show written on them. They were a big hit and really, really easy to make.
Jenny in Florida
By the way, here's what I know so far that I'm making for my two teens this year: My daughter will be getting a new clothespin angel Christmas ornament (a tradition). This time, the angel is based on Kaley from Firefly wearing her awful pink dress from the "Shindig" episode. I'm working on cross-stitching a Firefly-themed design on a t-shirt that will become the top for a pair of pajamas once I finish it and make the pants. I also crocheted a "Jayne hat" for her that just needs its ear flaps sewn onto the rest of it. (Can you tell she loves Firefly?) I also have two jewelry racks that she has commented on liking at JoAnn's. She doesn't like the color, though, so I'm planning to paint them to match her room. If I get time, I hope to crochet her either a poncho (which she's been hinting she wants) or a vest (which I just think she'd like) in purple, her favorite color. My son is very into dragons at the moment. So, I'm cross-stitching him an ornament and pajama top with dragon designs. I'll make pants to match the pajama shirt. I'm also cross-stitching him a dragon bookmark, which I suspect he will like more than he will admit. Obviously, since I've got more things going for his sister, I need another idea or two for him. If it helps at all, my son has been making his sister bath "bombs" and bath salts for the last few years. They're both easy to do, and she loves them. This year, I think we're going to try molding the bath bombs into pretty shapes. Just today, he decided that he's going to embellish wooden boxes for his three closest friends. He's planning on a combination of staining, painting and woodburning to personalize each box. I'm going to ask the parents of each child about favorite colors and favorite candies or treats. Once he's finished fancying up the boxes, we'll line each one with velvet in the appropriate color and fill with each kid's candy of choice before wrapping. I suspect they will love these a lot. (It's that kind of group.)
Wendi
Food's good. Also, a lot of the shops for teen/young adult clothes have colorful scarves and knit hats. Do you knit? If you sew, check out http://www.uncommongoods.com and type "reclaimed scarf" in the search box. Those are so cute, and if you're crafty, you could probably make your own. Fingerless gloves and those fingerless gloves with a mitten cover that buttons back are still popular. An iPod/iPhone sleeve would be good if you know what kind they have.
