Garga
I'm pretty sure there's a dead mouse in my wall and it's starting to stink. What do I do?
Guest
Oh no. Maybe try calling an exterminator... they might have a suggestion.

Guest CarolineUK
wait a few months til the smell goes away. well, that's what we did Same here - sounds terribly passive doesn't it, but it really is the simplest way, and it does get better as time goes by:tongue_smilie:
Alenee
Or you could put a hole in the wall and get it out like we did.:glare: Ours was still alive though and sounded like a rat...turned out it was a teeny tiny mouse. We had an infestation last year and called an exterminator. He placed poison throughout our attic and we never smelled it. He said if we did, it wouldn't take long for it to go away. Hockey Mom
The quickest way is to call a pest control company. If that's not in the budget, then buy some of those Febreeze candles and burn them every waking hour. One time, I thought our garbage disposal was the source of the smell, and dumped an entire gallon of bleach down it. The house reeked of chlorine, and I didn't notice the smell as much. Then Dh came home and informed me that we had a dead rat somewhere because of the smell. We couldn't find it, so I bought Lavender scented Febreeze candles and burned them until the smell was gone. It took about a week to get the smell out. We live in Florida, and the heat and humidity decomposes creatures pretty fast.
Momling
We had some dead animal (squirrel? raccoon? cat?) under the porch that we couldn't get out without tearing a hole in the wood. The stink got so bad, that we actually wrote out a sign and posted it on the door explaining the situation so that the postal worker wouldn't think there was a moldering corpse in the house. It was really less than a week of intense nastiness and then a lingering dead smell for a few weeks and then it was gone. Good luck!

lionfamily1999
Candles, deodorizers, &tc. I wouldn't poke a hole in the wall, that is just (imo) too much work and damage for something that will go away pretty soon on its own.

fairfarmhand
Do you have a crawlspace or attic space it might be in instead? At least someone (not you ;) )might be able to get in there to remove the thing.
