butterfly113
Help! I can't decide! Famous Men of Rome seems like it is just that.... The story of "said person"... Story of the Romans seems more like a story line of the time period, and includes specific stories of people. If you HAD TO CHOOSE between one of these... Which one would you chose and why? Greta
:001_huh: Anyone??? Would you hate me if I threw out a third possibility? :) We read The Story of Rome by Macgregor for free at mainlesson.com and really liked it. I'm not familiar with the other two. Sorry if this is more annoying than helpful! http://www.mainlesson.com/display.php?author=macgregor&book=rome&story=_contents
jeri
Also, does it depend on the age of the kid? I'm wondering for my history-interested 5th grader. Thanks/ jeri
butterfly113
Thank you Greta. :001_smile: IT would be for ds10... and he does like history as well. Thanks for the other suggestion... just having a hard time narrowing that down... anyone else?
Narrow Gate Academy
I've read both and would choose The Story of the Romans for a 10yo. I think it is a more thorough history than the Famous Men books. The Famous Men book is more heavily focused on early Roman history up to the empire. It has less detail on the later empire than The Story of the Romans. I also like the overall style of the Guerber books better. FYI - Both books are available free at mainlesson.com, and there is a free ambleside schedule of The Story of the Romans in year 6.
