AppleGreen
So, we are looking to get a new mattress. I really loath buying new mattresses, so to ease my pain (maybe!), does anyone have a site they like/trust that has mattress reviews? Does anyone have mattress they love? We want a queen size. I don't think I want memory foam, dh has a pillow that is memory foam and it makes him sweaty and I am just a little icked out by them. (my cousin got one that needed to be out in the garage for a week before they could use it so it could off gas, that kid of freaks me out, but maybe that's irrational) We had a king size mattress that we paid a lot of money for and dh never slept well on it, so I know I will be looking for a good return policy. I am willing to spend money on a good mattress, but I have no idea where to start. Anyone?
Ottakee
I am looking for a new mattress as well. I asked about the Sleep Number beds here last week or so and got either we love it or we hate it results. I just don't want to spend that much money on something we might not like. Hoping someone will post some good ideas here.
BeckyFL
What a dilemma. Mattress shopping is hard for many reasons. 1. Different stores have different names for the exact same mattress so it's hard to compare prices and get a good deal. The best way I found is to ask for a copy of the mattress "specs" and take it to the next store. This would include coils, layers and what they are made of, etc. 2. There are no good reviews because people have such different backs, necks, pains, etc. I'm someone who counts on reviews for most things, but found the mattress reviews practically useless. Sleep number was horrible for me. When I tried to go any softer than firm, there was just a big valley on my side. My husband slept fine since he is best sleeping on something like the floor! The best solution I came up with was to shop the sleep guarantees at different stores. The best one near us was Famous Tate. They offered the guarantee with no fees AND you could trade to something more expensive and pay the difference OR (and this made them unusual) trade down and get money back. We ended up with a Simmons World Class Beautyrest and have been happy with it. I just wanted to be sure we had options if it didn't work well for us. LatinLover
I really love my Jamison mattress, but they're a little hard to find. It's latex with a pillowtop....not too firm, not too soft. Lower back pain (unless I do something dumb!) is a thing of the past. Can't do memory foam myself.
dirty ethel rackham
What about this one? Good for a laugh, at least;).
Teachin'Mine
I'm probably not much help as I'm going to suggest the kind that freaks you out. Memory foam is amazing!!! You should get one with enough inches of memory foam - like in a 12" mattress you should have about 5" of memory foam - not 9" of high density foam and then 3" of memory foam - it won't be as comfortable IMO. Also you MUST get one with the cool technology memory foam as the top layer - usually it's only an inch or so, but it's enough to make it so it doesn't hold in the heat and feels the same as a regular mattress temperature wise. Costco worked well for us. They do smell when you first open them, and I was tempted to get it back to them right then and there before it became too big to move. But I'm glad I stuck with it and let it do its thing. We just opened the windows in the bedroom to keep the air fresh. After it was full size, we put the mattress cover on and our sheets and all. One night of sleeping on it, and I knew it wasn't going anywhere. :D Here's a link for one that sounds good: http://www.costco.com/Browse/Productgroup.aspx?Prodid=11315996&search=novaform&Mo=15&cm_re=1_en-_-Top_Left_Nav-_-Top_search&lang=en-US&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&Sp=S&N=5000043&whse=BC&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntk=Text_Search&Dr=P_CatalogName:BC&Ne=4000000&D=novaform&Ntt=novaform&No=2&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Nty=1&topnav=&s=1&SessionID=a223d941-9238-4a40-85dc-20652ddb6b3c Edited July 28, 2010 by Teachin'Mine
ScoutTN
We LOVE our Tempur-Pedic! It actually disperses heat much better than a regular mattress. They come with a money-back guarantee - why not try it for 60 days (or whatever the time frame is) and see?
Mothersweets
Do you have a Costco membership? We have bought our last few mattresses from Costco. They are well-made and don't cost an arm and a leg and are very comfy, to boot!
KidsHappen
I have chronic low back pain. About a year ago we bought one of the memory foam 3" mattress toppers because our mattress was shot and we wanted to try this out before springing for a complete mattress. It was immediately comfortable but I was still having the back pain. Now, a year later my pain is less frequent and less severe. The only problem I have is that I can't find mattress pads that cover the entire depth of my pillow top mattress and the memory foam topper. AppleGreen
I am still looking some stuff up, but you all have definitely given me food for thought. My ILs have a sleep number and while I have slept fine on it, I don't like the "bar" that runs down the middle to separate the two sleep chambers...we like to cuddle when we actually sleep in the same bed! Hmm, off to ponder some more. Thanks Hive!
Denisemomof4
My dh sweats horribly from our memory foam pillows, too. I *love* mine. We have a Sleep Number. Best money we EVER spent, BY FAR. I can't even tell you how comfortable I am in this bed, as is dh. Our morning pain is gone, and my hip and knee pain is gone. It's hard at first until you finally get just the right number for you. You should know what number is right for you within a few weeks. I also have friends who will never sleep back to another type of mattress. The only bummer about owning one is that when I go away I can't sleep well. NOTHING beats the comfort of a SN in my book.
BikeBookBread
Does anyone have an IKEA memory foam? DH and I tried one out a couple of weeks ago, and you sure can't beat the price for their highest-end mattress...but will it last? We know we want to switch to memory foam whatever the case may be... bookfiend
Consider a latex foam matress instead of memory foam; all of the benefits ,none of the yick.
