Loop Scheduling Question

I love the idea of the Loop. I think this would be fantastic for my older child especially.

How do they know what work to do next?

I realize some things are easy...math is just the next lesson. Easy planning. But not everything is like that.

So if they are working independently on their loop, where do they get their assignments? Thanks!

I made assignment strips and progress charts for each boy. The assignment strips hold 12 "assignments". Usually first thing in the morning I'll stick that day's assignments up and then we work from there. Whatever is left at the end of the day is what I know needs to be looped to the next day.

In terms of what they need to do each day, most of our books have those post-it tabs on the next page. So, they know what math page is next, I know what spelling lesson and FLL lesson comes next, and we go from there. Most other subjects we do together, but with the assignment strips, they at least know what is next and if it's independent work, they know where to go because their book more than likely has a tab on the correct page.

Can I just say, I have read the way you are handling your organization, starting with the filing thread and then on loop scheduling threads, and you are quite inspiring. The fact that you do it all on your mac is even better because I have now learned to do so much more on mine by attempting to recreate some of the things you have done but with my own twist.

All that to say thank you.

Aw, I am humbled. :blushing: I really hope it all works this year. This is the first time trying all of it together, but ever since I found out I was expecting our fourth, I have been in major "we need to get organized" mode. ;) School has slowly become more organized; I'm hoping between the filing and the looping, it'll all come together. Thank you for your kind words. (And it is so fun playing on the Mac trying to figure out how to do things that I used to do on the PC.)

Or maybe I got the quarter planner from a mom here? I don't remember.

The quarter planner is a table on microsoft word. The subjects head each column, and each row is a different week. There would be 6, or 8, or 10 rows, however many weeks I want to plan at a time. Under "math" in the row "week 1," I'll put:

Lesson 23

Lesson 24

Lesson 25

Lesson 26

For a different subject, there may be only 2 or 3 lessons in each box, depending on how many I want to get through in the alotted number of weeks. If we finish something before the end of the weeks, we drop that, and work more on the other subjects. Then I make a new sheet for the next 10 or so weeks.

BUT, someone on here just recommended Homeschool Skedtrack, and I'm going to try that this year. I'm not 100% sure how it'll work with looping, as I haven't gotten deeply into planning yet.
