Kirsten in MO
Hi, I bought a used Saxon Algebra II set (2nd edition) to use with my son this year but it did not come with a Solutions Manual. Can I buy a 3rd edition SM to use with it, or do I have to find a 2nd edition? Will the DIVE cds work for any edition? This is only our second year to use Saxon so I don't know how the different editions line up. thanks!! :001_smile: Kirsten
LatinTea
I think you will need the 2nd edition. I had to buy the 3rd to match up with my 3rd edition books so I would assume the same goes for the 2nd. In checking Amazon, I found this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/0939798999/ref=sr_1_10_olp?ie=UTF8&qid=1280317734&sr=8-10&condition=used The top one listed as 'Very Good' and only $3 + $3.99 for shipping is a great deal. :) The DIVE CD is for both 2nd and 3rd editions. Teachin'Mine
Kristen I would highly recommend getting the right solutions manual for your edition. We started out last year with exactly that combo - 2nd edition text and 3rd edition solutions manual, and it was very frustrating. It wasn't a problem in every lesson, but just often enough that when my dd had a problem wrong, before I'd have her redo the problem, I'd have her read the problem to me as it was in her book to make sure the problem was the same. Sometime it was just a sign that was different in part of the equation or an "i" that was different, but it would throw the answer off. About a quarter of the way through the text, we got the 3rd edition text and it was so much better. I'd also suggest changing the text instead of the solutions manual. I know it's the more expensive item to change, but the 3rd edition gives you the lesson number next to each of the 30 problems. You have no idea how much time that saves when they need to go back and reference the lesson. But if you can get the 2nd edition solutions manual at a really good price, that could work nicely too. Kirsten in MO
Thanks for the suggestions! I wish I could just use the 3rd edition but my son is taking a class with some other home schoolers and the teacher specifically requested the 2nd edition of the book. My son took Algebra I from this same teacher this past year and they used the 3rd edition of the Alg. I book. Thank you thank you LatinTea, for the link....I think that will be the way for me to go! ~Kirsten
LatinTea
You're welcome; glad to have helped. I would trade someone to teach this for me with the 2nd edition instead of ME teaching the 3rd edition any day! But I gotta forge through somehow myself. Should be interesting. :001_huh:
