MerryAtHope
I ordered True Tales, What in the World, and Digging Deeper--the Ancient Civilizations and the Bible ones. Anyway...We listened to the intro & first one on the WW one (a bit too bubbly for our tastes but I'm trying to give it a chance!), part of the Digging Deeper one about Life on the Ark and how the Ark was built (lots of minutiae), and the True Tales one about where Cain got his wife--that was the only one my kids sort-of liked. I did listen to a couple of sample segments before I bought and don't remember her being quite so bubbly or quite so into the tiniest details...I'm hoping I didn't waste 50 bucks here! Everyone raves about them so much...will they get better as we go on? Last year was not a good history year for us, so the kids may not be as willing to give these a long chance as they sometimes are. Thankfully I got them to be supplemental...Sigh... Thanks, Merry :-)
Josie
Our dc absolutely LOVE the Waring CD's. You may prefer the SOTW CD's as they aren't as bubbly.
Susie in MS
Sorry, They are wonderfully bubbly all the way through. :tongue_smilie:;)
Guest Cheryl in SoCal
I really like them but my high school boys thought she was "too enthusiastic":001_huh: Since I love them we have used them and she has grown on my boys. Now they think she's just "enthusiastic" I find her to be quite entertaining. Very different though when you are used to Linda Hobar reading MOH. I imagine those who have listened to Diana for a long time thinking Linda is dry when they first listen to her:lol:
Paintedlady
I agree she's bubbly, but I got a chance to see her in person at our HS conference last year, and I think that's just her personality. She was very funny and jovial and seemed to like what she was doing an awful lot. I thoroughly enjoyed her. :)
Donna T.
I only have the older versions of her audio. In those, she just gets bubblier. In fact, I think she begins to squeal a little bit. :D We really enjoy our tapes. Her style has grown on me. She has a ton of info. to share. I like that she is so "into" it. I will be buying the newer CDs for next year and I've wondered if she is as excited in those.

My kids love books on tape. My son is 13, so he would agree with your hs boys, LOL! But really I'm hoping that the info gets more interesting. I don't know, just hasn't hit the mark for us so far. Maybe it's because the first day was creation vs. evolution & my kids have heard a lot of that. The two we tried on the ark seemed to talk about a lot of minute details that didn't interest my kids much. Maybe it's just us? She was very funny and jovial and seemed to like what she was doing an awful lot. I thoroughly enjoyed her. :) I get that impression from the tapes too & even had that thought--"I bet I'd like her in person!" But to my 13 yo son, I'm sure he felt talked down to in the intro. Mainly I just hope the info starts appealing to my kids more soon! I think they could overlook the style (or it would grow on them) if they didn't get lost in the tiny details--as an example, she went on a long time about what a cubit was to different cultures, and it was just a list--to this one it was this & to this one it was that...we had several things like that come up where I thought, "just get to the meat of it please!" Well, sounds like we're the only ones who have struggled with this, so we'll see I guess! Merry :-)

We bought them last year all excited too. Listened to a few and just didn't like them. I couldn't put my finger on why exactly but you've pegged it. tuesdayschild
I like Diana better in real life - she's great fun, really engaging. Her audios are a bit like Tiggr .... ta.oo 'bouncy' for us. I felt worn out after listening to her go flat to chat for 20 mins :tongue_smilie: (She may grow on you Merry :)).
katiejane
My kids hate them!!!! They think she sounds like she is on drugs. Lol. They much prefer the MOH ones.
MerryAtHope
Well, I think we've made friends with the True Tales one at least! I do wish she wasn't QUITE so bubbly (I think she'd be great at telling stories to little ones!) but they have gotten more interesting! Merry :-)
Cindyg
We like DW. I was glad you started this thread a couple of weeks ago because it reminded me I was going to order some to go along with next year's history curriculum.

I love the MOH books, but bless her heart Linda Hobar about put me to sleep. Had I not ever heard Diana Waring I may have been ok with Linda. I'd rather read MOH aloud!
