Can I move from Saxon 8/7 to CD Algebra?

It seems like I heard once that some folks do either Saxon 8/7 or Algebra 1/2, but not both, and that either one would serve as pre-algebra. Does that mean I can count 8/7 for pre-algebra and move into Chalkdust Algebra? Will this be too big of a leap?

Hi ThelmaLou,

not much help here as I only perused CD and haven't had much success with Saxon 8/7. I see you've received no responses so I'll offer what I have to give...

8/7 is where my ds began to break down with Saxon. They didn't have Saxon teacher then so that might help my younger one coming up. Older ds couldn't stand Saxon and disliked CD immensly, feeling it moved too fast for him. DD now doesn't want to try it either...?

Just wanted to mention being sure you're child has watched the sample DVD. I thought my daughter would just love the CD stuff, but she surprised me and had the same reaction ds did. They didn't like the presentation of Mr. Mosely. I did, but they didn't.

It's a big investment, just wanted to encourage you to be sure your children will respond well to the format.

They were also put off by the lack of clear daily assignments.

Well, a friend of mine suggested I have my son take the Iowa Algebra readiness test, and he passed with flying colors. She also had the complete CD Algebra 1 (think free!) so we're going to give it a shot. I'm a little nervous about the new format, but we're going to give it a shot. Thanks for responding!

My daughter did Saxon 8/7 and then the following year completed Saxon Algebra I with no problems. We use Teaching Tape Technology Saxon DVDs, and my kids love it! The TTT made all the difference! The teacher is great.

We tried CD, but didn't like it as well as Saxon...I guess we were just used to the Saxon format. Although, my oldest did use CD SAT math review and had great success with it. I'm sure CD is a great program too. We just decided to stick with what worked for us.

HTH,

Lora
