chickenpatty
(with the lid removed, of course) directly over a campstove/fire? If we were to take a #10 can of stew, could I just heat it up right in the can? I despise washing dishes while camping!
Renthead Mommy
It will work better if you put the can into a pot of water and then heat the water. More like a double boiler. We'd do this in college in a hot pot (before the days of everyone having a microwave!) But at least this way there is only water in the pot, nothing to really clean. Oh and take the label off first! If you put the can right over the fire, you risk burning one side of the stew while the other is still not hot.
lionfamily1999
You can also scorch the can and end up with something that A. You can't pick up and B. Has a hole in the bottom. The double broiler is a better idea (unless you, like dh, have a great deal of experience in hoboing it and know when the moment is just right). smrtmama
Not a good idea. Many can liners contain BPAs, which are released when heated.
TechWife
For good or bad, thousands of boy scouts do just this every single weekend.
