mmasmommy
Are there any good resources out there to teach problem solving skills? DS-7 is gifted but his go to answer to any problem that's not black and white is "I don't know". He is very easily frustrated and while we're working on problem solving for things that affect his life directly I'd really like to do some exersices in concepts or ideas that don't directly affect him to try to develop those skills further. Thanks! Amy Newbie HSing Mom to my 3 DD-9, DS-7, and DD-2 along for the ride
HeidiD
You might like some of the Prufrock Press publications. Amazon also sells them. Also, you can adapt anything you're working with, really. Try the Socratic method - guided questions that eventually lead him to the answer on his own. Start with familiar material in order to build confidence, and gradually increase the difficulty. Even drop little hints along the way if necessary to keep him engaged - the objective is to practice and help him develop a sort of structured yet personalized problem-solving approach. HTH! :)
Crimson Wife
Not specifically for gifted kids, but I really like Myrna Shure's I Can Problem Solve program. Raising a Thinking Child is excellent. There's also a book for 'tweens but I haven't personally read it.
