Must read list for the high school years?

Recommended Posts

I want to make a list of books that I want my dd to read before she graduates. We will be doing TOG for high school. I'm thinking about books that she can read for free reading. Here are a few I've thought of:

Stepping Heavenward

Fallacy Detective (because we never got to it in JH)

Jane Eyre (which I don't think is in the TOG line-up, and I love this book)

A good book about dating (any suggestions? Christian perspective please)

So, what do you want your dc to read before they leave your house?

I'd suggest reading Anne Bronte's books. I don't have one list for all three dc, because they're all different. However, here are some samples of what my dc will read:

The Republic of Love by Carol Shields (late high school, Canadian lit, not dark like most Canadian lit)

The Tenant of Wildfell Hall Anne Bronte

Don Quixote (my middle dd loved a kids' version; it's her kind of humour, but I didn't like it.)

A Tale of Two Cities I will probably make all 3 of them read this one

Never Cry Wolf

Swimming to Antarctic they're all swimmers. This isn't lit, but interesting to those who swim, and comes under the biography/memoir category.

Pride and Prejudice

There are more, and probably some I want them to read even more than these, but I can't think of the titles off the top of my head most of the time, at least not all at once.
