Miss Marple
Ds (finishing sophomore year in Pet. Engineering) was selected to go to Florence, Italy next semester to participate in an international conference. He's so excited! Selection was dependent on GPA as well as the amount of points earned for volunteerism and society meeting attendance. The school selected the top 40 students in the program who met these criteria - makes this mama proud knowing her son is "ranked". And it looks like all his buddies get to go, too. Quickbeam
Congratulations to him and to you:D! Florence is magic; I went there as a sophomore in college. I still treasure that experience, and I bet he will, too. Maybe you should go visit while he's there......;)

Chris in VA
That's great! I love Italy--never been to Florence. Does he speak Italian? Maybe he'll want some phrases--although I've heard the iphone app that translates for you is pretty awesome.

Kareni
What exciting news! How long will he get to stay? Before my daughter went on a 10 day student trip to Italy, she went through about the first eight or twelve lessons of Pimsleur. She found it very helpful. Miss Marple
Good idea. He's pretty fluent in Spanish so maybe he could pick up Italian easily. He'll only be there a week. I hope they give them some time to go sight-seeing.
Kareni
A week sounds great! I hope he'll have some free time to explore. Any possibility of him going a few days earlier or staying on for a few extra days? Regards, Kareni
