Sue G in PA
What is a good grammar program for 9th? My dd13 has had adequate grammar to this point including diagramming. I would like her to continue but do not know what to use! Any suggestions? She would likely be doing it over the summer. Thanks.
Emma
Well, I'm planning on CLE's language arts book for my upcoming 9th grader. It's only a 1/2 yr. program, so I told her she could do it all before Christmas or stretch it out and spend the yr. with it. I think the material is solid, not overkill, and no fluff. I want her spending way more time writing than diagramming at this age.
HollyDay
I'm going to use 1 of AG's high school reinforce and refresh books. I'm also going to use Sandi Queen's LL for High School vol
Andrew Kern
If you have the support and independence, I would urge Harvey's Grammar, published by Mott Media. It isn't easy because it's a late 19th century text book, but it respects the structure of language more than any other program I've seen lately. Blessings! Brindee
Has she already used Analytical Grammar? I'm looking at that for dd, who will also be in 9th, for next year, but she's a little behind in grammar. If your dd has done AG, she could do the highschool supplements. VaKim
Since she has already had plenty of grammar, I love this little book my dd is doing right now in 10th: http://www.amazon.com/Painless-Grammar-Rebecca-Elliott-Ph-D/dp/0764134361/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1272014247&sr=8-1 She is enjoying it as well. Every section has a set of what the author calls brain ticklers - sentences to correct using what you just learned. But the best part is the answer key, because she doesn't just give the correct answers, but explains why they are correct. We bought the writing one as well. Very good little books that cover a lot of useful information. :)
Janice in NJ
The WTM suggests Rod & Staff 9. It works well here. Peace, Janice
