SusanAR
Ds will be a Sr. next year, and I am wondering if he might use AoPS Counting and Probability as a statistics course??? He will take a basic stats course in college (he wants to major in animal science-pre-vet), so I want him to have some exposure in high school. He used Foerster alg I and II, Jacobs geometry, and is studying CD pre-cal now, FWIW Thanks
Kathy in Richmond
Susan, No, the AoPS C&P course is a lovely course in combinatorics and probability, but it does not cover statistics. (Here are the Table of Contents and Index). Most statistics courses do cover some probability theory by the way, but not the other way around. If you're looking for a good statistics course for a 12th grader, I used this textbook with both my kids. My ds self-studied it and my dd used it in conjunction with the PA Homeschooler AP Statistics course online, which she greatly enjoyed. There are also Khan Academy statistics videos available free online - most of his material is great. Your son should have the necessary background for any of these options. hth, ~Kathy
