I've only used their lower level stuff (K-2nd) so I don't have experience with the higher levels but I really like what I've seen so far. I haven't used any of the other unit study curriculums so can't comment on them (Konos is one I've heard of). www.homeschoolshare.com has a wide variety of free unit studies. I'm not sure how much they have for a 5th grader but its probably worth checking out. When I'm doing a topic, I'll just google it ("plants unit study") and usually a lot of stuff comes up.
