I have to share these pirate sandbox pics

Recommended Posts

We decided 2 months ago to build Keaton a sandbox before the summer heat made doing so unbearable. We initially decided it would be big and have a sunshade. I came up with the idea of making a "simple" sailboat or ship. Well, when you put a skilled, perfectionist, overachieving engineer and an imaginative, perfectionist, creative firstborn together, what do you get? A 12-foot long pirate ship! Don't I have a talented hubby?

Both the bow and stern have 2 hinged doors for storing sand toys (or people--I fit in quite well). The sandbox itself is 5ft x 5 ft. The sail sunshade can be moved to several different positions and rolled up using the handwheel on the side. The monkey/banana jolly roger flag was made using my embroidery machine and can be raised and lowered with the rope.

I picked up the parrot for $1 at Walgreens and found the sword and eyepatch at Dollar Tree. They were made for a larger bear, so I cut down the eye patch and sewed it on. Keaton's shirt, pants, and bandanna came from Wal-mart. Grandma sewed the sash for him, and the hat came from the local hobby store. I got the steering wheel for $1 and the treasure chest for $2 at two different garage sales.

Keaton supplied the cute free of charge.:D
