AndyJoy
We decided 2 months ago to build Keaton a sandbox before the summer heat made doing so unbearable. We initially decided it would be big and have a sunshade. I came up with the idea of making a "simple" sailboat or ship. Well, when you put a skilled, perfectionist, overachieving engineer and an imaginative, perfectionist, creative firstborn together, what do you get? A 12-foot long pirate ship! Don't I have a talented hubby? Both the bow and stern have 2 hinged doors for storing sand toys (or people--I fit in quite well). The sandbox itself is 5ft x 5 ft. The sail sunshade can be moved to several different positions and rolled up using the handwheel on the side. The monkey/banana jolly roger flag was made using my embroidery machine and can be raised and lowered with the rope. I picked up the parrot for $1 at Walgreens and found the sword and eyepatch at Dollar Tree. They were made for a larger bear, so I cut down the eye patch and sewed it on. Keaton's shirt, pants, and bandanna came from Wal-mart. Grandma sewed the sash for him, and the hat came from the local hobby store. I got the steering wheel for $1 and the treasure chest for $2 at two different garage sales. Keaton supplied the cute free of charge.:D
Pink Fairy
The sandbox is cool, but the baby is absolute perfection. :001_wub: That first shot has me drooling with baby envy!

myfatherslily
I agree! The boat AND the baby are awesome!!:) My in-laws built a pirate ship, too! Theirs isn't a sandbox, but the kids keep dragging in large piles of sand, so it might be one soon!
Chris in VA
That is fantastic! You might want to start covering it, if you don't already. Cats like to visit. :D wanted to add--LOVE the monkey and banana instead of skull and crossbones! PERFECT>
