Choosing a microscope ... HELP!

Recommended Posts

We bought this one 5 years ago and are very satisfied.

FWIW- we did biology in a co-op setting; there were three microscopes available including ours. My dd said everyone wanted to use ours because it was easier to use and kept its focus as students moved from one microscope to another to look at different slides. The teacher confirmed that ours was by far the highest quality one of the group and bought the same kind for herself.

We got one very similar to this http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-40-1000x-Lab-Vet-Professional-Compound-Microscope-w_W0QQitemZ200457920400QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2eac391f90#ht_4024wt_917 (they no longer carry the model we bought) from this company off of Ebay and have been very satisfied with it. If you are going to do high school biology, I would suggest you consider a scope that goes to 1000x so you can do oil immersion slides - but then I'm a science geek.

I had been researching this a bit a while back, and have this link for the same microscope for a bit less at this site:

I was wondering how it compares to another one I had been looking at, and I'll post that link when I find it. :)

Has anyone bought this one from Sam's Club?

http://www.samsclub.com/shopping/navigate.do?dest=5&item=168938

It has a five year warranty instead of lifetime like the 131, but it sounds pretty good for the cost.

And this one from WalMart is digital and has an LCD display:

Has anyone used this one???
