lovemyboys
Looking for a decent beginner's GPS for hiking and geocaching. Not serious rugged orienteering or anything like that. What features do we need for that? Which brands would you recommend? Price ranges? Thanks for your help! :001_smile:
Mrs Mungo
If you don't get many answers, you might try searching "garmin" on the general forum. I know they have been discussed quite a bit, along with geocaching.

Mrs Mungo
It's hard to beat an iPhone for geocaching. True. My hubby just sold both of his GPS units because his iphone has more functions and a better gps than either of them.
EmeraldGirl
We have a Garmin eTrex which we purchased new about a year ago and it does the job for us. We really enjoy geocaching, but haven't done it too much as our littles are still little and getting used to it. OUr goal is to eventually place our own caches for others to find. Our first letterbox in the new area was placed by a family starting out with littles near their home based on Eric Carle stories. It was cute, a little tricky but not tough. mamapjama
I'm still using my Garmin car gps. It works, though not as easily as a unit made for geocaching. I figure we will be really good at it when we finally upgrade. They have a geomate Jr. which is inexpensive and rugged for children to use. You could check the reviews on that. Geocaching.com has a forum section and the members are usually really helpful. We love geocaching and are happy that all the snow has melted and we can get back out there.
