Mama2two
I plan to do some geography along with our history, but think my son would really enjoy learning more mapping skills for 1st grade. I'm looking for recommendations for 1st grade geography/mapping I was thinking either Maps, Charts and Graphs or Evan Moore Daily Geo Practice. Any thoughts on these or other ideas? http://www.evan-moor.com/Title.aspx?CurriculumID=7&SeriesID=206&TitleID=727&EmcID=2847#tabTop http://www.amazon.com/Maps-Charts-Graphs-Gr-Student/dp/0813621321/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1267677694&sr=1-
eight_gregorys
We like the Daily Geography Practice put out by Evan Moor. We have been doing it this year and it is very simple and effective in teaching geography. There is geography topic for each week and two questions each day for them to answer. Like this week it's a Farm Map and each day there are questions about this particular map. Today the questions were: This map shows Central City ________. How many kinds of animals are on the map key?? Then on Friday there is a Challenge: This week it states to color the zoo animals tells you to label the zoo animal that is your favorite. I hope that explains it well. We really enjoy it b/c it's simple, effective and doesn't require a huge time commitment. Let me know if you have any specific questions about this curriculum...I'd be happy to answer. HTH,
momtothreeboys
We are using the Rand McNally Schoolhouse Schoolhouse Beginner Geography and Map Activities. I really like it and so my three boys.
m0mmaBuck
We use the Complete Book of Maps and Geography. DS actually gets excited when we pull it out.

Chris in VA
Just fyi--Daily Geog Practice exercises sound a LOT like the mapping skills tested on the ITBS. Don't know if you have to do that or not--but thought it was worth telling you.
