Country Girl
Anyone have any suggestions for a good mystery or suspense book they have read? I'm not really in the mood for anything with gory details, just something with good suspense that won't let me stop reading until I find out the answers. Even something like Time Traveler's Wife would be okay, where the book was like a puzzle and I just kept reading to figure out how the pieces went together. I can also do killer, or classic mystery story.... I'm just looking for a fun, suspenseful read. Thanks!
hsbaby
I LOVE Patricia Cornwell books (especially the Scarpetta series). I wouldn't consider them gory, but they are detailed....the main character is a medical examiner.

unsinkable
If you don't know much about the 1893 World's Fair or that era you might like the nonfiction book Devil in the White City. I posted these other titles a while ago; Child 44 by Tom Robb Smith In the Woods by Tana French The Likeness by Tana French
Julie in CA
It could've been just me, but I recently enjoyed Kill Me, by Stephen White. It's the first book in a long while where the ending surprised me.
iluvmy4blessings
If you like Christian fiction, then Ted Dekker has some pretty interesting suspense thrillers with a loosely underlying Christian theme to it.
KnitWit
I like Patricia Cornwell too...but The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins is my favorite mystery
Frontier Mom
If you like Christian fiction, then Ted Dekker has some pretty interesting suspense thrillers with a loosely underlying Christian theme to it. I agree and emphasize "loosely", but I can't put his books down. I just finished Head Games by Tim Downs. He is considered Christian fiction, though I would say he is a "loosely" Christian theme writer as well. But, the book is great, with many twists and turns and no objectionable content. hornblower
Harlan Coben - Tell No One is a great place to start. He has a series with a detective called Myron Bollitar but I prefer his stand alones (like Tell No One). I'm still enjoying Sue Grafton. I just finished her "U" book. Allison Brennan writes suspense with a bit of romance. Her latest one (or maybe 2 now) are paranormal but before this they were 'straight' LOL. (I don't read paranormal...) Sudden Death, Fatal Secrets, Cutting Edge are what I remember of her recent ones. http://www.allisonbrennan.com/ Tess Gerritsen is a physician who writes thrillers. http://www.tessgerritsen.com/ Stella Cameron has also jumped on the paranormal bandwagon but she has some good regular suspense in her backlist. http://www.stellacameron.com Oh & another doctor who writes - CJ Lyons. http://cjlyons.net/ Elizabeth Peter's newest Peabody will be out in a few days.

Dee_Garretson
My favorite classic mystery writer is Ngaio Marsh. Her books all feature the same detective, so it's good to read them in order to follow along with what's happening in his life as well. The first one is titled 'A Man lay Dead'. Julie in CA
I also liked the Jane Whitefield series by Thomas Perry. I think the first one is Vanishing Act.

KrissiK
This is an oldie, and somewhat cliche' but my favorite John Grisham novel was "The Firm". The last several chapters had me tied up in knots.
Cindy in the NH Woods
I also liked the Jane Whitefield series by Thomas Perry. I think the first one is Vanishing Act. Me too!
Heidi @ Mt Hope
I like Patricia Cornwell too...but The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins is my favorite mystery I was going to recommend The Woman in White. Also Hunger Games as a pp recommended. (Beware, it is riveting, and only the 1st two books in the trilogy have been published. The story leaves you HANGING after both books, so far.) iquilt
Did you know the author of Time Traveler's Wife has a new book? It's still hardback so expensive but I put it on my list for later.
