In the mood for a good mystery or suspense book.

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any suggestions for a good mystery or suspense book they have read? I'm not really in the mood for anything with gory details, just something with good suspense that won't let me stop reading until I find out the answers. Even something like Time Traveler's Wife would be okay, where the book was like a puzzle and I just kept reading to figure out how the pieces went together. I can also do killer, or classic mystery story.... I'm just looking for a fun, suspenseful read.

Thanks!

The Hunger Games. I couldn't put it down.

If you like Christian fiction, then Ted Dekker has some pretty interesting suspense thrillers with a loosely underlying Christian theme to it.

I agree and emphasize "loosely", but I can't put his books down. I just finished Head Games by Tim Downs. He is considered Christian fiction, though I would say he is a "loosely" Christian theme writer as well. But, the book is great, with many twists and turns and no objectionable content.

Harlan Coben - Tell No One is a great place to start.

He has a series with a detective called Myron Bollitar but I prefer his stand alones (like Tell No One).

I'm still enjoying Sue Grafton. I just finished her "U" book.

Allison Brennan writes suspense with a bit of romance. Her latest one (or maybe 2 now) are paranormal but before this they were 'straight' LOL. (I don't read paranormal...) Sudden Death, Fatal Secrets, Cutting Edge are what I remember of her recent ones. http://www.allisonbrennan.com/

Tess Gerritsen is a physician who writes thrillers. http://www.tessgerritsen.com/

Stella Cameron has also jumped on the paranormal bandwagon but she has some good regular suspense in her backlist. http://www.stellacameron.com

Oh & another doctor who writes - CJ Lyons. http://cjlyons.net/

Elizabeth Peter's newest Peabody will be out in a few days.

I like Patricia Cornwell too...but The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins is my favorite mystery

I was going to recommend The Woman in White.

Also Hunger Games as a pp recommended. (Beware, it is riveting, and only the 1st two books in the trilogy have been published. The story leaves you HANGING after both books, so far.)
