Pam L in Mid Tenn
I can't see the inside of this book at Amazon or on Conceptual Chemistry's website. It seems to be what I'm looking for. Has anyone used it yet? What is the 'set up' of the text? Chapter review questions? Vocabulary? How many chapters? What about tests? Labs? Answers? Any info will be helpful! Thanks before I spend $100 on one book! Pam
Storm Bay
Dd did this last semester and it was a big hit here. There are questions for every chapter. The poster course consists of chapters 1-12, but there are 19 chapters in the book. The Instructor's Manual also gives several other ways to do 12 chapters, or you can do all of them. There is a glossary in the back. There is a lab manual, however some of the labs call for expensive equipment. What we did was buy MicroChem instead. MicroChem can be use up to 5 times, so we'll be using it again with each of our other two dc. I would suggest buying the 3rd edition text, which comes with the lecture CD-Rom Chemistry Alive! Dd loved the lectures best of all. I'd also get the Instructor's Manual, which we bought from Amazon. It includes all the answers to the questions in the text. Unless you can afford the equipment or are a chemist and know how to improvise, I'd go for a different chem lab programs such as MicroChem. Conceptual Chem was a great choice for us. Dd wants to go into science, so will be doing an advanced or AP chem with lots of math later, but she really understands the underlying concepts. It's possible to pass a regular Chem course and do all the math without really understanding the concepts, etc of Chemistry. It will also work well for my middle dd who is not interested in science, and I think for my ds as well, when they get to that age.
